  • 46. What is the shelf life of the adhesive and grout?

    1. The adhesive has a shelf life of 1 year if unopened. Once opened, it is best to use it within 48 hours. In hot weather or high temperatures, it is recommended to use it within 24 hours.

    2. The grout is an eco-friendly inorganic grout. Its shelf life is 7 days when unopened, though this is a conservative estimate. Due to factors like local climate and humidity, grout with a production date within 15 days may have precipitation or solidification after opening. It can be mixed and used, and should be used within 48 hours of opening. It is recommended to open and use one container at a time, and open a second container only once the first is finished.

  • 47. Can other brands of adhesive or structural adhesive be used?

It is recommended to use the dedicated adhesive to avoid issues such as hollowing, detachment, or efflorescence. For interior installations, Degao or Mapei brand Type 2 tile adhesives can be used. Structural adhesive should not be used, as it may lead to potential hollowing in the future.

  • 48. Can flexible stone be dry-hung?

No, flexible stone cannot be dry-hung. It is more stable and less likely to detach when applied using the wet bonding method.

  • 49. Is flexible stone prone to hollowing or detachment after installation on the wall?

No, flexible stone is a breathable and lightweight material, weighing only 3–6 kg per square meter. Once installed, it is secure and stable, making it a preferred material for schools, large public buildings, and other safety-focused projects.

However, to ensure proper adhesion and avoid hollowing or detachment, the following installation guidelines must be followed:

    1. Surface preparation: The substrate must be leveled before installation to reduce the risk of hollowing.

    2. Adhesive application: Use the dedicated adhesive, and ensure a minimum of 90% coverage (full-bed application).

    3. Panel reinforcement: For large panels (2400×1200mm and above), use nail guns to reinforce the upper portion after applying to the wall. For smaller panels (1200×600mm and below), reinforcement is generally not necessary.

Following these practices ensures that the installation is firm, resistant to hollowing, detachment, efflorescence, and powdering.

  • 52. How to handle uneven joints at board substrate connections?

If the substrate joints are uneven, you can use putty for localized leveling and sanding. After that, apply a coat of wall sealer to prevent powdering of the putty layer. Once prepared, the surface is ready for direct installation of flexible stone.

  • 50. How to repair flexible stone if it is partially damaged?

Use an adhesive in a matching color to fill and repair the damaged area. If the damage is at the edge of a panel, consider pre-arranging and trimming the panel before installation, placing it in less visible areas such as wall corners.

  • 51. What are the substrate requirements for flexible stone installation?

The substrate must be level and properly prepared:

    • For interior applications, it is recommended to use fiber cement boards (Eterboard) or cement boards.
    • For exterior walls, use high-density cement boards or leveled plaster layers.
    • It is not recommended to install directly on gypsum boards or plywood that have not been plastered and leveled.

  • 52. Can you provide both materials and installation services?

The manufacturer supplies materials only and provides professional installation guidance. Local distributors may offer full-service packages (materials + labor) or on-site installation support. We can also recommend professional construction teams across different regions in China.

  • 53. How is technical installation training conducted?

The flexible stone manufacturer provides free one-on-one online technical training. If on-site guidance or system training is needed, any related travel expenses can be discussed and arranged separately.
